In promoting awareness of manufacturing and its importance to our state, the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education and the Georgia Department of Economic Development emphasize that manufacturing is vital to Georgia’s economy; nearly 10,000 manufacturing facilities are located in Georgia, providing jobs for approximately 450,000 Georgians; manufacturing accounts for almost 10 percent of the employment in our state; and Georgia’s manufacturing operations include a variety of industries, such as transportation equipment, aerospace, computers and electronics, food, paper, metal fabrication, textiles, and plastics.
Also included in Manufacturing Appreciation Week are the awards for the student design contest. Student artwork, depicting manufacturing in the state of Georgia, is judged in three categories, including placemats (elementary school art), posters (middle school art), and t-shirts (high school art). The student winner of each category will receive a $500 cash prize.
