Donation to Add Volumes to CVTC Libraries and Adult Education Resources
Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Carter of Cedartown have donated over 200 recent best selling books to Coosa Valley Technical College’s Adult Education program through the Polk Family Learning Center in Cedartown. The Coosa Valley Technical College (CVTC) Library was enlisted as a partner in processing this incredibly large number of volumes, and the decision was made to catalog and distribute the titles among the college’s three campus libraries so that many students could enjoy them. One box of books, which were duplications, will now be housed at the Family Learning Center, which is an off campus location for CVTC’s Adult Education program, allowing the center to have a small check-out library of their own for their students who don’t regularly visit CVTC’s campuses in Floyd, Gordon, or Polk counties
Mrs. Carter (Kathy) is an avid reader and book club member, and promises there will be more book donations in the future. The Carters are retired educators with a long history of service and achievement in Polk and Floyd counties, as well as at the state level.
During September, which is Literacy Month, the Family Learning Center will have a mini book fair to introduce the new titles to students there. Also in September, the Adult Learning Centers on the Coosa Valley Technical College campuses will receive a listing of the newly available titles in their libraries.
