Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Held for Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy
The Ribbon Cutting ceremony for the new Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy was held on Tuesday, August 12, 2008. The ceremony was the official opening for The Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy Charter School. According to officials from Floyd County Schools, the older section of the school received some improvements including new paint, new signage, and the addition of the Student Success Center. Construction of the new $3.2 million addition is well under way. The new addition will house the School of Engineering and Robotics. The new addition is scheduled to be ready for students in the fall of 2009.
The Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy was a collaborative endeavor between the Floyd County School System, the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce, and Coosa Valley Technical College. Many local officials attended the ceremony. The special guest speaker at the ceremony was Lt. Governor Casey Cagle.
Cagle stated, “You have a lot of reasons to celebrate here today. You competed statewide for $3.2 million and were selected as one of six. What is phenomenal about that is that we had over 20 applicants and the process was very competitive.”
“I wanted the very best and brightest to get the money, those that were willing to create an environment important to students and their ability to learn. I am pleased to know that you are leading the way and setting a standard for not only the state, but I think you are setting a standard for the nation,” commented Cagle.
Coosa Valley Technical College President, Dr. Craig McDaniel, also spoke at the ceremony.
“Today is a big day for those of us who work in technical education because we dream about building partnerships where we can have these kinds of results. Our partnership with Floyd County Schools, Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce, and Coosa Valley Technical College has become the envy of the rest of the state,” stated McDaniel.
“We are creating an opportunity here where we can decrease the drop out rate and create a better pool of workers for businesses and industries in Floyd County, but also for prospective industries looking to locate in Rome and Floyd County,” added McDaniel.
