CVTC Celebrates Reaching Foundation Campaign Goal
Coosa Valley Technical College has reached its $2.5 million Education For Work Foundation Campaign goal. The college held a celebration Tuesday night in honor of all the donors to the campaign.
“In 2006 the Foundation’s Board decided that the time was right to do a campaign, and early in 2007 the case for support was developed and the campaign officially began,” stated CVTC Foundation Board Trustee Bob Berry. “The goal of $2.5 million was set by the Foundation Board and while no one ever thought that amount was unattainable, we knew a lot of other campaigns were going on at the same time, and we expected reaching our goal would be a long task.”
Just over 19 months into the five year campaign, CVTC has not only reached the $2.5 million mark, but has exceeded it with the current total raised at $2,524,283
“I don’t think in anyone’s wildest dreams did we anticipate the goal would be reached in such a short period of time. That is a tribute to what Coosa Valley Tech means to the people and businesses and industries in Floyd, Gordon, and Polk counties,” added Berry.
“We have a lot of successes at Coosa Valley Technical College and the successes that we have are because of the support we get from our Board members, Foundation Board of Trustees, CVTC faculty and staff, and the people in the communities that we serve,” said CVTC President Dr. Craig McDaniel.
“The campaign will not end here,” stressed Berry. “There will be continued efforts to raise money to further the mission of CVTC.”
The guest speaker at the celebration was professional speaker and writer Bryan Townsend. Townsend, a self-described motivational humorist, kept guests laughing throughout the presentation but also restated why the guests were there.
Townsend told the crowd that there were four words to live by; they have to care about the community they live in, plan for the future, help each other out by working as team, and having a duty to give back. Townsend added that everyone in attendance already lived by those words and that was why the college was able to celebrate the success of the campaign.
The Education For Work campaign is a five year investment plan designed to enhance economic development through workforce education in Floyd, Gordon, and Polk counties. The money raised through the Education For Work campaign will go toward four specific areas of need including high school initiatives, new program development, library resources, and financial assistance to students.
Coosa Valley Technical College’s Foundation was created in 1989 to allow the college to be responsive to the needs of the community and the economy. A 501(c)(3) corporation, the Foundation provides a way for services to be delivered when state and federal resources are not available.
